Rainer Wimmer (Germanist)

Rainer Wimmer (born February 28, 1944 in Wernigerode ) has been Professor of German Studies in the German Linguistic Department at Trier University since 1994 . His research and teaching focuses on practical semantics, language criticism and critical grammar.

After graduating from high school in 1962, he studied a. a. German studies at the University of Heidelberg . In 1970 he received his doctorate, his habilitation followed in 1976. From 1970 to 1978 he worked as a research assistant in Heidelberg. From 1982 to 1994 he was director of the Institute for the German Language in Mannheim .
