The Rajang is a river or stream on the island of Borneo . It flows through the Malaysian state of Sarawak and is the longest river in Malaysia at 563 km. The Rajang arises in the Iran Mountains in the center of Borneo from the confluence of several smaller rivers. Before it flows into the South China Sea in the northwest of the island , it reaches a width of over one kilometer and is spread over a 6500 km² delta. Larger places along the Rajang are Sibu, Kanowit, Song, Kapit and Belaga.
On the Balui River , one of the tributaries of the Rajang, the Bakun hydropower project was built in the settlement area of the Orang Ulu , a subgroup of the Dayak , not far from the Bakun waterfalls . This was completed in 2011 and is the largest dam in Malaysia.
Hydrometry
The flow rate of the river was recorded in the delta with several measuring points. The mean annual flow rate observed during these measurements was 3,600 m³ / s fed by an area of approx. 50,000 km².
