Rakov Academy
The Raków Academy (also: Rakauer Akademie ; Polish Akademia Rakowska ) was a university founded by the Polish Brothers in Raków , which taught from 1602 to 1638.
history
The academy was founded in 1602 in Raków by Jakub Siemieński , who built the school building and provided the equipment. In its structure it was designed as a high school with five classes that acquired academic rights through use. The school was under the parish and the scholarchen were elected at synods . Nonetheless, students of all denominations were accepted into the academy. The school reached its peak between 1616 and 1630, when it was attended by probably up to a thousand students from several countries. When some students are said to have destroyed a figure of Christ in March 1638, the Krakow bishop Jakub Zadzik , the Krakow voivode Jerzy Ossoliński and the papal nuncio Honoratus Visconti campaigned for the school to be closed. By the Senate judgment of April 19, 1638, the academy was dissolved and the school building was destroyed.
