The Raketenjagdpanzer (RakJPz) is an armored military vehicle designed to fight tanks with anti-tank guided missiles . It is mostly used by the tank destroyer arm.

As the main combat armament, the vehicle has at least one rocket launcher, but usually two. While tank destroyers used to be based primarily on tracked chassis, armored vehicles were increasingly used from 1980 onwards. The advantage of RakJPz compared to tank destroyers equipped with cannons is the greater range of the rocket, which often has to be bought at the expense of a reduced rate of fire.

Examples

The Raketenjagdpanzer 2 was a tracked vehicle, armed with the anti-tank guided missile SS 11 , which was used in the Bundeswehr between 1967 and 1992 . It was converted into a Jaguar 1 tank destroyer .

As a lightly armored wheeled vehicle, the Swiss Army has been using the 90 Piranha tank destroyer since 1990 .
