Ralf Brachmann

Ralf Brachmann (* 27. June 1962 in Ludwigshafen ) is a German Budoka of style karate . He was multiple German champion in Shōtōkan karate, vice world champion and two-time third place at world championships. He is a co-founder and promoter of the Koshinkan style .

Career

Brachmann began karate in 1977 and has competed since 1980, from 1981 to 1991 in the national team of the German Karate Association (DKV). From 1993 to 2003 he was a competitive sports advisor for the DKV and from 1988 to 1996 he was state trainer in Hesse. Brachmann was known for his spectacular fights. He repeatedly surprises his opponents with his special technique Ushiro-Ura-Mawashi-Geri . He won numerous national and international titles in the heavyweight category (men +80 kg):

  • 1982/83 German Championship: 1st place (team)
  • 1986 Shotokan Cup: 1st place
  • 1988/89 German championship 2nd place
  • 1989 World Championship: 3rd place (Budapest)
  • 1990: German champion
  • 1990 World Championship: 3rd place (Mexico City)
  • 1991 European Championship: 3rd place (Hanover)
  • 1992 World Championship: 5th place team (Granada)

Since his resignation from the national team in 1994, Brachmann has devoted himself to promoting young talent in numerous courses. The former German master Thorsten Steiner describes him as one of his teachers. In early 2000, Hans Wecks founded the 8th Dan with Rudi Witte 7th Dan, Ralf Brachmann 5th Dan, Ralf Behnken 5th Dan, Bernd Kuhlmann 5th Dan and Jörg Kerschek the style Koshinkan, in which the traditional form of Shōtōkan with contemporary elements such as Self defense is linked. Koshinkan is now recognized by the DKV as its own style and counts 67 practicing clubs. In 2016 Ralf Brachmann was awarded the 6th Dan in recognition of his services.

Brachmann now runs three sports and fitness centers in Hessen, he is married and lives near Frankfurt. After various hip operations, he now has an artificial hip joint . A new sports facility with a fitness center, various wellness areas and physiotherapy practices is currently under construction, which will replace the old Idstein sports center. Completion took place in July 2018, the opening in August 2018.
