Ralf Schmitt (born January 21, 1977 in Speyer ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach.

Player career

He began his career at VfR Speyer and then moved to FV Speyer , for whom he played in the Association League Southwest until 2000. From there Schmitt went to Eintracht Frankfurt for two seasons , where he was mainly used in the second team. Schmitt's only appearance in the 1st Bundesliga was on matchday 29 of the 2000/01 season when Eintracht lost away in Kaiserslautern. After moving to Wormatia Worms in 2002, he drew attention to himself with his good performance at Rheinhessen. Although the Worms missed as third in the table the promotion from the Oberliga Südwest, but Schmitt was able to score 19 hits in 26 games and so came into the field of vision of the Karlsruher SC . The Karlsruhe signed Schmitt for the 2003/04 season and there he was able to score the goal for the 2: 3 final score against 1. FC Nürnberg as a substitute on the first match day. This goal on his second division debut was also his only goal in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the end, Schmitt could not prevail in Karlsruhe's first team and in summer 2004 the Speyer moved to the Regionalliga Süd for FC Nöttingen . However, Schmitt only stayed there for six months. During the winter break of the 2004/05 season, he moved within the Regionalliga Süd to the Sportfreunde from Siegen , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season. However, he was unable to book any further appearances there, instead he sporadically played in the top division reserve of the Siegerländer. In January 2006 he moved to the second team of TSV 1860 Munich . After the 2007/08 season, his contract was no longer extended there due to his susceptibility to injury. However, since he could not find a new club, he continued to participate in training to keep himself fit. In October 2008 the Sechzger took him again - temporarily until the winter break - under contract. Schmitt came on the eighth game day of the Regionalliga Süd against Unterhaching II for the first season and scored the first home goal for 1860 II in over six months. During this season, Schmitt also got his coaching license so that he could work as a youth coach after his active career. Schmitt's contract with the Löwen was not extended in the winter of 2008/09 and the striker then moved back to his home in Speyer. He joined the FV Speyer , which became FC Speyer 09 in the summer of 2009 through a merger with VfR Speyer . For the 2011/12 season Schmitt made promotion to the seventh-class national league with FC Speyer 09 , and in January 2013 he ended his playing career.

For the 2013/14 season he was assistant coach of the upper division TuS Mechtersheim .
