The Ramal de Piranga or Ramal de Mercês is a historic railway line in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. It was built as a siding to the EFCB - Linha do Centro railway line for Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil .

history

The Piranga / Mercês siding was opened in 1911 between the Palmyra (Santos Dumont) and Oliveira Fortes stations and extended to Mercês in 1914. The siding got its name from the destination Piranga, where the line under construction never arrived. On February 28, 1969, the Ramal of Piranga, which had only been built as far as Mercês, was shut down.
