Raman is a small impact crater on the northwestern front of the moon in the plane of Oceanus Procellarum , northeast of Schiaparelli crater and northwest of Herodotus . To the west of Raman are the ridges of the Dorsa Burnet , to the north are the Montes Agricola .

The crater is moderately eroded. The rim is overlaid by a smaller crater in the southwest, so that the overall shape of the crater appears oval.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the Indian physicist CV Raman .
