Rambuteau is an underground station on line 11 of the Paris Métro .
location
The station is located on the border of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris. It is located alongside the Rue Beaubourg , south of the confluence of the Rue du Grenier-Saint-Lazare .
Surname
It is named after the Rue Rambuteau , a cross street of the Rue Beaubourg . Claude-Philibert Barthelot , Count of Rambuteau, was prefect of the Seine département from 1833 to 1848 . He had numerous Parisian alleys renewed and the street lighting switched from oil to gas. The Château de Rambuteau is located in the commune of Ozolles in the Saône-et-Loire department .
history
The station was put into operation on April 28, 1935 with the opening of line 11. At the time, it operated on the Châtelet - Porte des Lilas section . On May 12, 1944, line 11, and with it the Rambuteau station , was confiscated by the Wehrmacht . Since tracks had been dismantled, it could not go back into operation immediately after the city was liberated in August 1944, but only on March 5, 1945.
description
The underground station has two side platforms on two main tracks. It has an elliptical cross-section, the ceiling and walls are tiled. There are four exits, one of which (closest to the Pompidou Center) has an escalator. The stairs of the exits on Rue Rambuteau mark candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the style of Art Deco .
