Ramersberg is a district of the municipality of Sarnen in the canton of Obwalden with 289 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2017).

geography

Ramersberg is located west of the village of Sarnen on an elevated, exposed hill. The hamlet is not an administratively or politically delimited unit from Sarnen, so the boundaries are not precisely defined. In a narrower sense, Ramersberg consists of a closed built-up area. However, this is continued in individual buildings, mostly farms, which are initially only a short distance from one another around the town center.

Attractions

The St. Wendelin chapel stands on an exposed hill on the upper outskirts of Ramersberg. It was first mentioned in a document in 1499 and in 1692/93 the new building took place at its current location. It was consecrated on October 9, 1693 by Auxiliary Bishop Konrad Ferdinand Gaist. In 1968 an overall restoration took place, the high altar painting by Louis Niederberger was replaced by a Baroque statue of Wendelin . Finally, a comprehensive exterior renovation was carried out in 1988. The chapel consists of a two-axis nave with a retracted choir, to which the polygonal sacristy is attached to the front wall. A slightly bent gable roof unites ship and choir under a common ridge, above the choir there is a hexagonal baroque tower with an onion on the roof. A groin arched sign with a fence, two Tuscan columns and a hipped roof protects the entrance gate. The sanctuary is uniformly decorated in blue marble imitation painting. The high altar is dated to 1698.

The village image of Ramersberg is classified in the inventory of protected sites in Switzerland (ISOS) as a site of national importance in Switzerland.

economy

The hamlet is characterized by farms. There are some holiday apartments and accommodation with further training opportunities. The Ramersberg corporation, whose roots go back to the time before the founding of the Swiss Confederation, administers the common property (commons, Alps and forests) for the good of the community.

Transport links

Ramersberg is connected to the main village of Sarnen via Schwanderstrasse, from which a steep, narrow driveway branches off at the end up to the hamlet of Ramersberg. The hamlet has its own post bus line (no .: 346) that runs from Dörfli to Sarnen train station and thus provides a connection to the S-Bahn to Lucerne and Interlaken Ost.
