history
When Swissair concentrated its long-haul flights at Kloten Airport in April 1996 , resistance arose in French- speaking Switzerland . At least the connection between the two UN cities of Geneva and New York City should be maintained. With money from the economy and the cantons of Geneva , Vaud and Neuchâtel , Swiss World Airways was founded, which after some initial difficulties took off on September 10, 1998, one year late, but ceased operations on December 2, 1998. After unsuccessful recapitalization attempts , Swiss World Airways was dissolved in an orderly manner by an appointed liquidator.
