Baboo (originally Flybaboo , previously Baboo Airways ) was a Swiss regional airline based in Le Grand-Saconnex .

history

After Swiss International Air Lines announced the cancellation of most flights from Lugano in the summer of 2003 for reasons of profitability, various plans were announced by new airlines to operate at least some of these routes from autumn 2003. Baboo Airways from Geneva, which initially served Geneva-Lugano three times a day with a Dash-8 Q-314 operated by Cirrus Airlines , was the first to take off.

In April 2004, the company's first machine, also a Dash-8-315, was registered as HB-JEJ in Switzerland. The expansion of the route network (e.g. from Geneva to Venice, St. Tropez or Prague) was pushed ahead with the second Dash-8, which went into operation from autumn 2004. On the Geneva-Lugano route, they will be working with Darwin Airline from autumn 2005 (under their direction).

The three leased Embraer 190s were withdrawn from service in autumn 2010, whereby, according to CEO Mark Darby, two of the three aircraft are to be decommissioned and one is to be used on selected routes for the time being.

In November 2010, Flybaboo SA and Darwin Airline SA announced that Darwin Airline would take over the destinations served by Baboo as well as part of the business activities. The takeover should be completed in the first quarter of 2011 after approval by the responsible authorities, which has since been implemented.

Destinations

Baboo served primarily from Geneva destinations in neighboring European countries, including Biarritz , Rome and Valencia . She also worked with several codeshare partners, including Alitalia , Air France and Olympic Air . Another agreement existed with TAROM since October 2009.
