The Jet Aviation Business Jets AG is a subsidiary of the US Rüstungskonzers international and aircraft manufacturer General Dynamics within the business aviation , based in Basel and based on the Basel-Mulhouse . It has 38 locations in Europe, the Middle and Far East, and North and South America.
history
Jet Aviation was founded in 1967 by Carl W. Hirschmann senior († 1995). He acquired the former hangars of Globe Air in Basel and specialized as a maintenance company for business aviation. Two years later, the Pilatus company took over the maintenance and handling operations in Zurich and Geneva.
In the 1970s, Jet Aviation expanded its services to customers in Europe and the Middle East into the aircraft management and air taxi business. In 1977 Jet Aviation started offering interior fittings in Basel. In the 1980s and 1990s, the company expanded into Europe, the Middle East and North America.
In October 2005, the Hirschmann family sold the company to the private equity company Permira . Under the new ownership, Jet Aviation took over Midcoast Aviation in St. Louis, Missouri, one of the leading maintenance and aircraft interiors companies in North America. At the end of 2008, Jet Aviation was taken over by the US defense company and aircraft manufacturer General Dynamics for 2.45 billion Swiss francs . Since 2008, Jet Aviation has had a new "wide-body hangar" that can accommodate the largest passenger aircraft, the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 . From January 1st, 2013 the Zurich location will be taken over by the Cessna Aircraft Company.

Jet Aviation offers air taxi services in Europe, Asia and the USA and is one of the world's largest providers of air taxi flights.
In the area of aircraft management and flight support, the company offers international and national flight planning , personnel services for crew, maintenance services as well as insurance , financial and administrative services .
In the field of handling and ground services for business aviation, the company has an international network of handling operations for business aviation. These so-called Fixed Base Operations (FBO) include passenger handling , aircraft refueling and services for passengers, aircraft and crews for business aviation.
Jet Aviation offers aircraft interiors (interior fittings and conversions) at two of its own locations in Basel and St. Louis . For this purpose, the company has its own design and engineering departments as well as various workshops such as carpentry , saddlery , plumbing , painting and a fiberglass workshop.
The maintenance and repair of aircraft and avionics - Support (also known as MRO for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul , called) is the original main activity of Jet Aviation and is still around half of consolidated revenues of the largest business segment of the company. Jet Aviation services, maintains and repairs helicopters , turboprop aircraft, business and private jets, and the most common engines that business jets are equipped with. This includes piston engines, turboprop and jet units. The maintenance of aircraft concerns airframe, engines, systems, avionics, cabin and cockpit facilities.
In the field of engineering work (development and avionics modifications), the company has focused on tailor-made installations in the cockpit and aircraft cabin area. The activities include the areas of development, component construction, installation, ground and flight tests as well as approvals.
Jet Aviation is also active in aircraft sales and brokerage. The services include market evaluation, comparisons of operating costs, analysis to determine the market value of aircraft, tax-exempt swap transactions, leasing and financing options as well as brokering activities in aircraft sales.
