Zimex Aviation is a Swiss airline based in Glattbrugg at Zurich Airport .

history

The airline was founded in 1969. In 2010, Zimex Aviation was the first airline worldwide to receive the new de Havilland Canada DHC-6 series 400. In April 2016, two ATR 72-200Fs joined the fleet, while an ATR 42-500 followed on December 4, 2018 .

After SkyWork Airlines went bankrupt , Zimex took over Swisscoy's supply flights . Twice a week she flies troops and equipment from Basel to Pristina and back; every other week with a stop in Sarajevo .

Destinations

The airline flies primarily in North Africa and the Middle East for non-governmental organizations , aid organizations and oil companies . For Nightexpress , Zimex flew express cargo flights from Maastricht to Coventry .

Incidents

  • On October 14, 1987, a Lockheed L-100-30 Hercules of Zimex Aviation ( aircraft registration HB-ILF ) was shot down 40 kilometers west of the take-off airport in Kuito ( Angola ) during the Angola Civil War . The machine was on the road on behalf of the ICRC . All 6 occupants, 4 crew members and 2 passengers, were killed. Two people were also killed on the ground.
