Ramon Paje

Ramon JP Paje is a Filipino politician who has been Minister for Environment and Natural Resources in Benigno Aquino III's cabinet since 2010 .

Life

After attending school, he studied forestry at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños on a government scholarship and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science (BS Forestry). He then entered government service and was initially responsible for monitoring reforestation projects as an employee of the Bureau of Forest Development , now the Forest Management Bureau . In addition, he completed postgraduate studies in urban planning and regional planning at the University of the Philippines in Diliman , completing this with a Master of Science (M.Sc.). After visiting studies at Harvard University and the Australian National University , he finally earned a doctorate in public administration from the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

During his tenure in the Bureau of Forest Development, he first became Chief Forester and then Director of Forest Services.

He then moved to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) , where he was initially Assistant Secretary , before becoming Undersecretary for Local Projects and Forestry Research ( DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations and for Forestry Research ). He was also Executive Director of the Minerals Development Council of the President of the Philippines during this time .

In the course of his many years of service in government he has received several awards and received the Philippine Prize in 1996 as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Men" and in 1999 the Dr. José Rizal Huwarang Filipino Award for Public Service.

On June 29, 2010 he was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III. appointed Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources in his cabinet.
