It is located west of the island of Askøy . Immediately to the east, only about 130 meters away, is the island of Hillesøyna , to which there is a bridge connection. Fv219 has been running to Askøy since 1989 via this and in extension over the islands of Stora Lauvøyna and Lilta Lauvøyna , so that there is also a road connection to the mainland.

The island extends from north to south for about 670 meters, with a width of up to 650 meters. Several bays, however, sometimes extend deep into the interior of the island. In the east there are the bays Sofaen , Grisavika , Molohopen and Sandvika and in the south Søra Lefjæra and Myrafjæra . It reaches a height of up to 26 meters at the Ramsøyfjelet hill . There are several small port facilities and jetties on the east side of the island.

Facilities

The Ramsøy barnehage kindergarten is located on the island . To the west of Ramsøyna is the Ramsøy ILs Hjemmebane football field .

Monuments

Next to the kindergarten, a small park and a memorial stone commemorate the sinking of the fishing boat Spring on January 22, 1930, in which eleven fishermen, roughly a third of the island's adult male population, were killed.

During the Second World War , the Army Coastal Battery HKB 37/977 Ramsö was built by German troops in November 1942 during the German occupation of Norway on the west side of the island, on the coast of the Hjeltefjord . After the war, the battery was demolished, but parts were preserved. The approximately 20 objects that have been preserved extend over an area of approximately 350 by 160 meters.

South of the island, in the bay of Myrafjæra, lies under water the wreck of the cargo ship D / s Spring (not to be confused with the fishing boat) loaded with coal from the north of England, which sank in January 1914 after a collision with a smaller boat. It is a listed building. A ship anchor was found east of Ramsøyna and is considered an archaeological site.
