The Hjeltefjord is a 35 kilometer long fjord in the Norwegian county of Vestland . It stretches from the Byfjord in Bergen in the south between the islands of Askøy and Radøy in the east and Sotra and the municipality of Øygarden in the west to Fedje in the north, where it merges into the Fedjefjord . Its northern entrance is marked by the lighthouse Hellisøy fyr . There are various islands in the fjord, such as Ramsøyna , Søra Rotøyna and Midtra Rotøyna .

The name Hjeltefjord is derived from the Old Norse word hjelte , which means "a man from Shetland ". Perhaps the name suggests that the fjord was the first leg of the sea voyage to Shetland.

The fjord is one of the busiest waterways in Norway and the main sea route to Bergen. On November 8, 2018, the frigate Helge Ingstad collided with the oil tanker Sola TS and later sank as a result of the collision.
