Radøy is an island and a former municipality in Fylke Vestland, Norway .

As part of the municipal reform in Norway , Radøy, Lindås and Meland were merged to form the new municipality of Alver on January 1, 2020 . The administrative center of the municipality was Manger. Radøy bordered the municipality of Lindås to the east and beyond the fjords that otherwise surround Radøy were the municipalities of Meland in the south, Øygarden in the west and Austrheim in the north.

5,091 inhabitants lived on an area of ​​110 km² (as of January 1, 2019). The municipality number was 1260. The last mayor was Olav Steinar Namtvedt ( Sp ).

The municipality was part of the landscape Nordhordland .

The Lutheran Emigrant Kyrkja at Sletta

In 1964, the former municipalities of Manger, Sæbø and Hordabø were merged to form the municipality of Radøy (norw. Radøy kommune ). In addition, Bognøy came from the former Herdla herad , Straume Krins with Fesøy of Austrheim herad and Sletta Krins of Lindås herad . Titland, which used to belong to Sæbø, was transferred to Lindås Municipality.

The West Norwegian Emigration Center ( Vestnorsk Utvandringssenter ) is located in Sletta on Radøy.

In 1997, the Lutheran parish church built by Norwegian emigrants in Brampton ( North Dakota ) in the USA from 1908–1921 was dismantled and rebuilt true to the original in Sletta as Emigrantkyrkja (German: "Emigrant Church").

The motif symbolizes so-called kicks or oarlocks from an archaeological boat find in Mangersnes - one of the oldest finds of small boats in Norway. The coat of arms was designed by Even Jarl Skoglund and adopted by royal resolution of June 14, 1991.
