Randy Atcher

Randy Atcher (born December 7, 1918 in Tip Top , Kentucky ; † October 9, 2002 ; born Randall Atcher ) was an American country singer and musician, who is the brother of "Singing Cowboy" Bob Atcher .

Life

Childhood and youth

Randy Atcher was the fifth child in the family who moved to North Dakota in the Red River Valley shortly after he was born . He comes from a very musical family, his brother Bob later became a star of the WLS National Barn Dance . But when he was twelve years old, Atcher and his family moved back to Kentucky .

Beginnings

Since he could play guitar and mandolin , he appeared on the radio station WHAS in Louisville , where he met the aspiring country musician Cliff Carlisle . After graduating from high school, Atcher wanted to study at Western Kentucky State College, but the flood, which also destroyed the Atchers' home, had to stay home and rebuild the house. When World War II broke out, Atcher was drafted.

After his release, Atcher was already married to Daphne Atcher, he formed his first band, the Red River Ramblers . With his band he got a recording contract with MGM Records by chance and in 1950 he appeared for the first time at WHAS Old Kentucky Barn Dance .

Career

When the television station WHAS-TV first went on air in 1951, Atcher got its own television show, which, initially limited to half an hour of broadcasting time, was a great success. He also had two radio shows on his home broadcaster WHAS and was a member of the Old Kentucky Barn Dances , now broadcast over the CBS network and broadcast across America. He also released countless records for MGM Records.

His television show ran until 1970, the Kentucky Barn Dance and its radio shows were previously discontinued. His record sales also fell, but Atcher still performed publicly and was committed to children. One of his last appearances was on WHAS-TV. His wife Daphne had died in 1977, and two years later he had remarried.

Randy Atcher died on October 9, 2002 at the age of 83.
