German Schuhstrasse

The Deutsche Schuhstrasse is a themed road serving tourism in southern Rheinhessen and western Palatinate (federal state Rhineland-Palatinate ). As a circular route of more than 300 km, it runs largely within the Palatinate Forest-Northern Vosges biosphere reserve , often on scenic side routes.

history

The Deutsche Schuhstrasse was established in 1977 from the Pirmasens area because it was the center of the German shoe industry from the beginning of the 19th century . However, after many shoe factories in Germany have been closed in the wake of globalization or have relocated their production abroad, the German Shoe Route is only being advertised cautiously and is one of the lesser-known holiday routes at the beginning of the 21st century.

Attractions

Waters - to the east of Waldfischbach-Burgalben, the Schwarzbachtal and Clausensee are touched.
