Rania Youssef (born December 1, 1973 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian film actress. Rania Youssef has repeatedly taken on roles that are controversial in Egyptian society. Her private life is also regularly featured in the Arabic-language rainbow press.

roll

Youssef plays one of the leading roles in the 2007 Egyptian television series " The Yacoubian Building " (Arabic: عمارة يعقوبيان ʿImārat Yaʿqūbīān), based on the script by Atef Beshai and directed by Ahmad Saqr . Other leading roles are played by Salah Al-Saadni , Ezzat Abu Ouf , Lobna Abdel Aziz and Aser Yasin .

Controversy

At the closing event of the Cairo International Film Festival in 2018, Youssef wore a tight-fitting black lace dress through which her legs could be seen. She was then charged by two Egyptian lawyers with "inciting debauchery" for violating the moral principles of Egyptian society. One of these attorneys was Samir Sabry , who boasts of having reported thousands of "offenses" against Egyptian morals and brought them to justice. After the nationwide uproar, Youssef took a stand and confirmed that she stood by the values of Egyptian society. The lawyers took this as the required excuse, whereupon they withdrew the lawsuit.

The threat of prosecution for Youssef was real. In the past, female singers have already been sentenced to prison terms for "inciting debauchery" after provocative music videos . Youssef would have threatened up to five years in prison if convicted.
