Raoni Metuktire
Raoni Metuktire (* around 1930 in Mato Grosso , Brazil ) is a chief of the Kayapo people who live in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Pará . Through his commitment to the preservation of the Amazon rainforest and indigenous cultures , he became an internationally known symbol.
Raoni's worldwide, decades-long struggle, together with Orlando Villas-Bôas and Sting , led in 1993 to the unification of indigenous land to the Parque Indígena do Xingu on the Rio Xingu , one of the world's largest rainforest reserves.
Since 2010 he has been fighting against the Belo-Monte dam project .

Raoni The Fight for the Amazon , is a Franco-Belgian documentary from 1978 by Jean-Pierre Dutilleux about the life of Raoni Metuktire and the struggle for survival of the indigenous peoples in north-central Brazil. Marlon Brando played all the opening sequences of the film and thus became a symbol for saving the rainforest on the Amazon and the indigenous peoples.
