Rapala (formally Rapala VMC Corporation ) is a leading manufacturer of fishing accessories . The company's shares are traded on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.

history

Rapala was founded in Finland in 1936 by Lauri Rapala . The most famous products are the wobblers . The Shad Rap , Original and Jointed models are considered the three best-selling wobblers worldwide. In 1959 Rapala expanded into the USA , and in 1964 fishing knives were added to the product range. Rapala went public in 1989. The wholly owned Rapala subsidiary VMC is one of the largest fish hook manufacturers in the world.

Rapala sells over 20 million lures annually in over 140 countries. Knives, other fishing tools and video games for the Microsoft Xbox , Sony Playstation and Nintendo Wii are also sold.
