Raphe median plane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The raphe median plane ( RME , English raphe-median-plane , from Latin raphe = seam, line of adhesion) is defined as part of the median plane according to the Bonn orthodontist Gottfried Schmuth (* 1926) . The raphe median plane is formed by the intersection of the second transverse palatal fold with the raphe palatina media and the spina nasalis posterior (an unpaired bone process that is delimited by the right and left palatal bone (os palatinum)) at the transition from the hard to the soft palate certainly. The RME is used in orthodontics in model analyzes as the basis for sagittal and transversal (symmetry) comparisons and deviations.
