Rare Dialect is the debut album by the Polish instrumental group Light Coorporation . It was released on Recommended Records in 2011 .

Creation and publication

The album Rare Dialect was released in 2010 in Porażyn, where Szymon Swoboda has his studio Vintage Records. The musicians strived to achieve the sound that was characteristic of long-playing records from the 1960s and 1970s. In the studio, the old analog preamplifiers , compressors, amplifiers and microphones were used. In order to achieve this, it was decided that the material should not be affected by various noises suddenly occurring during the course of the recording, such as B. cracking noises or noise to clean. A total of 13 compositions were recorded on the magnetic cassettes using a Studer A807 cassette recorder, which in the past belonged to the Polish Radio . The majority of it was on the record. Mariusz Sobański was responsible for production and Szymon Swoboda for mixing and mastering .

The album was released on August 10, 2011 by the renowned record company RēR Megacorp from London, also Recommended Records by Chris Cutler . He is known from the bands Henry Cow , Cassiber , Pere Ubu and The Residents . Light Corporation got in touch with this publisher through Henryk Palczewski, who is the owner of the Polish independent sales and publishing company "ARS" 2. In addition to Recommended Records, the French record company Musea Records was interested in the release of the debut album and wanted to start a closer collaboration with Light Corporation. But your offer was rejected. The record was also promoted by the single Tokyo Streets Symphony / Maestro X , which was released independently in early 2011.

Cover design

The graphic frame was designed by Tom Lietzau. Both the film recordings from the 80s, which were previously processed in various programs in the computer, as well as photographs of the collection of vinyl records were used. Among these one can find such first editions of albums such as B. Daevid Allen , Art Zoyd , Camel , Captain Beefheart , Caravan , John Coltrane , Lindsay Cooper , Egg , Gilgamesh , Gong , Peter Hammill , Henry Cow, Steve Hillage , Soft Machine and others. The back of a cover was labeled "LIGHT COORPORATION ABOUT", which later turned out to be a track for the band's third disc. However, most of the cover was presented as fictional vinyl with the keyword "LC DIALECT".

reception

The album garnered positive reviews from around the world. So it got 4 out of 5, 4 out of 6 or 8 out of 10 points from reviewers. Among other things, it was emphasized that the musicians had a good technical workshop, interesting and ambitious compositions. At the same time, the various influences from different genres and currents, such as. B. Jazz, Jazz-Rock, Progressive Rock , Psychedelic Rock , or the so-called Canterbury Sound , Avant-garde Rock, are emphatically noted. The band cannot be pigeonholed. Their music was rated positively, it was also emphasized that the musicians have found their own way of expression, apart from today's trend. They also have the courage to go their own way.

Adam Baruch of Jazzis Records described Light Corporation's music as “a unique breed of RIO / progressive rock that had deep roots in the early days of the movement (Henry Cow). At the same time, it is tailored to today's standards when it comes to sound and conception ”, in summary one can say that Rare Dialect “ is a good piece of a musical cake ”.

Maciej Nowotny from Polish Jazz had drawn attention to the skills of Mariusz Sobański, “whose guitar harmoniously combines his own style with courage. These make the sound recording unforgettable ”.

Rok Podgrajšek from The Rocktologist thought Light Coorporation was "a group of focused musicians who play so freely that they feel comfortable in" organized improvisations "".

Vitaly Menshikov from the Progressor portal wrote in the summary of Rare Dialect review that “the majority of the authors concentrate on their own talents and not on the original inspirations”. He recommended the record to all people who “are not only tied to this or other kind of music, but are also interested in various expressions of progressive rock”.

Olav Martin Bjørnsen, an editorial colleague of Menshikov, stated in writing in the Prog Archives and text published there that the album by Light Corporation was a “debut of a higher quality”, that “for art rock lovers looking for something new should be comfortable. The same goes for jazz and fusion enthusiasts ”.
