Raspa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Raspa is a after 1945 in Mexico and Cuba incurred society dance in the moving 6/8 clock.

It is said to go back to a Central American harvest dance and has been spreading in Europe since 1950.

More likely, but not proven, is the origin of the European straw chopper dance , which was and is widespread in many variants not only in the entire German-speaking area, but also in large parts of Europe. According to Hans von der Au, alternating hop dances like Raspa are derived from a fertility dance performed by women. For example, pictures by Pieter Bruegel from the 16th century already show dance figures that are assigned to the straw cutter.
