Norwegian Language Council

The Norwegian Language Council (Norwegian: Språkrådet ) is a state, advisory body that deals with issues relating to the Norwegian language forms ( Bokmål and Nynorsk ). It is aimed at both public institutions and private individuals. The council was established in 2005. Direct predecessor organizations had existed since 1952.

The tasks of the council include preserving the Norwegian language as a cultural heritage, increasing knowledge of the language and promoting tolerance and respect between the users of the various forms of the Norwegian language. The standardization of the two official forms of language as well as the linguistic quality assurance of school books are also part of the organisation's area of ​​responsibility.
