The town hall is a listed building in Amberg , a city in the administrative district of Upper Palatinate ( Bavaria ).

history

After the fire of 1356, construction began on a place that dominates the townscape in the east of the market square. The western facade with the richly decorated gable is an expression of this construction phase. A balustrade with a stepped turret was added in 1552. There were once arcades under the south front. Like the balustrade porch , these were bricked up in 1761. The western part with the flat bay window belongs to the old town hall . The entire northern complex and the one following to the east was built in 1572 and 1573 as the New Town Hall . The upper floor of the old town hall contains the large council chamber with a ceiling from the 16th century as well as various other rooms. In the new town hall there is the small council chamber from 1573 and different rooms.
