Town Hall (Eisenach)
The town hall of Eisenach is a listed building in Eisenach , Thuringia . It has served as the seat of the city administration and the (lord) mayor of the city of Eisenach since the end of the 16th century .

The town hall is located in the city center of Eisenach on the east side of the market at the entrance of Karlstraße, right next to the Eisenach city palace and the building of the Ratsapotheke .

The town hall building was built in 1508 in the Renaissance style and initially served as the town's wine cellar. After the city had to cede its town hall, built in 1484 on the north side of the Georgenkirche , to Duke Johann Ernst von Sachsen-Eisenach , the town hall was relocated to the current building in 1596. In 1636 the new town hall was significantly destroyed by a city fire and rebuilt by 1641; in 1638 it received its characteristic stair tower. In 1812 the council scales next to it were structurally connected to the town hall. In 1924 the facade was renovated and the color redesigned. On February 9, 1945, the town hall was badly damaged and partially destroyed by a bomb attack . As a result, when the reconstruction began in 1946, the southern part of the building, the former Ratswaage, was removed and a town hall garden with a staircase that can also be used as a grandstand was created on the now free south and east side of the town hall. The renovation and reconstruction work and the design of the town hall area were completed in 1949.
In 1967 the facade was renovated again, during which the town hall received the red paint that is still present today. In 1993 the building, which was now in danger of collapsing, was thoroughly renovated. In 1994 the tower of the town hall, which was leaning towards disrepair, was removed and restored. In 1996 a building complex was built on the southern and eastern area of the town hall, which integrates the historic town hall and is shared by the city administration and the Wartburg-Sparkasse .
