Town Hall (Liberec)
The town hall in Liberec (German Reichenberg ), a town in the Liberecký kraj region in the Czech Republic , was built from 1890 to 1893. The town hall on the north side of the Altstädter Platz has been a protected cultural monument since 1988.
description
The building was built by the Viennese architect Franz von Neumann in the neo-Renaissance style. The architect closely followed the Vienna City Hall . Instead of Gothic, however, he chose the German Neo-Renaissance as the style of the building, which can be understood as a political statement. The slender main tower is 65 meters high. He is crowned again by the statue of a knight (Roland). It was taken down in 1952 and replaced by a red star, which in turn was replaced by a Bohemian lion in 1989. In 2005 a copy of the original statue was returned to the tower. The interior of the building is splendidly furnished with lead glass windows , ceiling and wall paintings and wood paneling.
