The town hall in Oberglogau (Głogówek) dates from the early 17th century. It is located in the middle of the ring, the central market square, and is designed in the Renaissance style. On the north side there is an octagonal tower and on the south side it has a gable facade decorated with reliefs, on which, among other things, the Oberglogau coat of arms is located as an ornament. On the facade there are sculptures of St. Florian and St. John of Nepomuk . Today the town hall is the seat of the city and local government.

history

The current town hall building and the town hall tower were built in 1608. They replace previous buildings from the 14th century. The Gothic cellar vaults have been preserved from the town hall building. From the town hall tower, the tower guard once announced the hours and important events in the country with the help of a trumpet. In 1625 the tower button was removed, which was shot through in three places by Czech soldiers passing through. Inside was a document that was completely destroyed by the weather, a golden Spanish cross and an Agnus Dei . A new tower button with new documents was attached. In 1653 the tower button was removed again, gilded again by a Mathes Doloczek from Bohemia and attached again on February 3, 1653. Further repairs or renewals of the tower button took place in 1683, 1775 and 1818. On November 25, 1669, the fire bell was hung in a roof tower on the east side. It was cast by the town founder Johann Brosch.

In 1774 the two stone statues of St. Nepomuk and St. Florian were attached to the south side of the facade. They are the work of the Moravian sculptor Johann Schubert. Two frescoes by Franz Anton Sebastini were attached to the south side . One depicted the Madonna ("Mother of God"), the other Saturn ("Uranus as God of Time") with a sundial. Both frescoes have not survived. In the same year, the roof, which was in danger of collapsing, was demolished and replaced by a new roof with stronger roof beams. In 1775 the tower was renovated and the weather vane with a star was attached, in which the coat of arms of Oberglogau and the dates 1608 and 1775 are located. Until July 1836, the Protestants of Oberglogau held their services on the second floor of the town hall. Then they moved to the hospital church.

In 1915, the Provincial Curator of Art Monuments of the Province of Silesia reported that the city of Oberglogau wanted to expand the town hall in order to be able to accommodate the district court in the town hall. The report on the enlargement of the town hall was negative. In 1942 the room was decorated with seven frescoes by Albert Hellmann, which show motifs from the history of the city of Oberglogau. In 1945 the town hall was partially damaged in attacks by the Red Army. It was rebuilt from 1955 to 1957.
