Town hall outskirts

The Ortrand town hall is a listed building in the southern Brandenburg town of Ortrand in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district . The classicistic town hall stands on the north side of the market between the street of the unit and the town hall street.

history

After the city fire of October 4, 1838 destroyed the town hall from 1525, the city administration decided to build a new one. The old town hall was only with the gable on the east side of the market. For the new building, the city administration acquired the fire sites of houses No. 71, 72 and 73 on the north side of the market. These were the former houses of the nail smith Markert, the master baker Paust and the former mayor Lucas.

The town hall was built in 1840 according to the construction plans of master mason Böhmig and master carpenter Grafe. In addition to the administration rooms and rooms for running a pub, it had two apartments, a lounge for the night watchmen and a prison. The apartments were for the police officer and the prison guard. Their original apartments in the Dresden gatehouse or in the gatehouse of Lindenau Castle could be saved. This also saved the prison in the Lindenau gatehouse and the guard building on the Ortrander market. The construction costs amounted to 11,686 thaler and 28 silver groschen.

The Ratskellerwirtschaft included a council room and a public tavern as well as a billiard room on the ground floor and a dance hall on the upper floor on the market side. The city administration used the western part of the town hall. The apartments were in the rear building and the prison on the upper floor . There was a gate entrance to today's Straße der Einheit. In 1901, the main city treasury and the city savings bank moved into two rooms. After the pub was closed, the Stadtsparkasse took over its rooms in the basement. In 1927/1929 the builder Hofmann rebuilt the town hall, as the previous rooms were no longer sufficient for the city savings bank. The adjacent office building of the master shoemaker Dreßler was included in the construction. The Stadtsparkasse assumed the renovation costs. The town hall was given access to Rathausgasse via the neighboring building, and the existing driveway from Straße der Einheit was included in the renovation. In addition to the city savings bank, the city library also received rooms in the converted building. The large conference room was created from the reduced dance hall , and a vault was built in on the ground floor . The rear building was torn down and the prison cells moved to the courtyard.

Nowadays the town hall of Ortrand and the administration of the Ortrand office are located in the town hall .
