History and shape

Rastenberg was promoted to town in 1378. Today's town hall was essentially built in the second third of the 16th century. The first building dates from 1565, but is said to have burned down in 1663 and then rebuilt.

This building was expanded in the 19th century by adding a porch with a gable roof on the market side. In addition to the striking roof tower, which bears the year 1824, there are numerous other elements on the facade. A previous renovation in the 18th century is probably confirmed by the inscription stones, one of which depicts the Justitia as a relief with the words Sum qui que Ad 1739 and is located on the south porch, while the other - above the western south entrance - depicts the city's coat of arms and dates to 1737 is. This is also a colored relief.

Some of the windows are framed with frameworks . The clock and flag holder are attached to the stem, with a staircase to the right. A total of three entrances are located on the south side, of which the central entrance has a segmental arch . A stair tower was also largely integrated into the facade, which, depending on the perspective, only protrudes as a tower hood or as an independent structural element and was modified in 1913. The Renaissance building was included in the list of monuments . The town hall, however, is not the center of the administrative community; it is the town hall of Kölleda . It is therefore increasingly used for other events, such as art exhibitions in the Rathausgalerie.

Directly in front of the town hall is a fountain with a three-dimensional representation of the city's coat of arms. It is regularly decorated as an Easter fountain .
