Rathausstrasse 8 before the renovation

The house Rathausstraße 8 in Bad Homburg stands as cultural monument under monument protection .

It is a two-story half - timbered house on an L-shaped floor plan with a hipped roof . The corner-layered and originally gable part is the oldest part of the house. On the upper floor there are remains of half-timbered houses from around 1700. The L-shaped basic structure results from an eaves-side extension from the 18th century. A retail store was built on the ground floor of the corner location in the 19th century. The shop was last used by the former Rosemann hat salon.

The house is actually a baroque plastered building. The structural framework was not actually intended as a visible framework, but the framework was later exposed. In 2018/19, a major renovation took place in which the facade, roof and windows were renewed, a number of rotten beams were replaced and the original color was restored. The spa association of the city of Bad Homburg recognized this renovation in 2019 as one of three exemplary facade renovations in Bad Homburg. The building is protected as a cultural monument for architectural, historical and urban planning reasons .
