more pictures	Jahn memorial	Bad Homburg, formerly Dorotheenstraße 5, now Niederstedter Weg 2, location hall: 14, parcel: 140/4	In memory of the "gymnastics father" Johann Friedrich Jahn (1778–1852), the Homburger Turnverein eV erected a memorial behind the former Jacob's Church in Dorotheenstrasse, which it moved into in 1905 (see entry after next). The monument is a stone group made of Taunus quartzite blocks, designed by stonemason Philipp Holler. She wears a bronze medallion Jahns by the sculptor August Stenger. The casting took place in the machine factory Chr. Metzger at today's Europakreisel. The inauguration was on September 1, 1912. After the gymnasium was sold (2012), a conflict arose as to whether the monument had to remain at the old location or whether it could be moved to the new gymnasium location on Niederstedter Weg. Outwardly, there is a historicizing illusionary architecture with an exterior design in sandstone, plaster and half-timbering, while the actual building is made of concrete, iron shed and Rabitz. The building, which makes up the entire front of the square, is richly decorated with architectural decoration and sculpture. It is an example of a strict, objective-looking classicism. The most elaborate decoration consisted of cast-iron balconies attached to the corner slope, one of which still existed. Until 2012 there was a jewelery shop in the building. In 2013 the house was renovated. Zeppelin stone

The Zeppelin stone is a reminder of the airship parade of 1910, which was accepted by Kaiser Wilhelm II. On April 22, 1910, the airships LZ 5 - Z II (Zeppelin system), M1c (Major Hans Groß ) and P2 ( August von Parseval ) met over Bad Homburg. .

In 1913 the Zeppelin Stone was erected in the open field on Nehringstrasse at the place where Kaiser Wilhelm stood. A bronze plaque on Taunus quartzite blocks with the Latin inscription that "hic loco" (here at this location) the emperor had stood to watch the airship parade, reminded of the event. In 2002, the Kur- und Verkehrsverein applied for the monument, now located in the industrial area, to be relocated to the entrance of the regional park route to Kronenhof. This relocation was rejected by the monument protection office. Only after a petition to the petition committee of the Hessian state parliament was the relocation approved, but the stone was deleted from the list of monuments. The stone was created by sculptor Stenger based on a design by Louis Jacobi . The square cast iron plate (instead of the bronze original) on a granite block from the northern slope of the Herzberg bears the (Latin) inscription in the round framed by the 12 constellations: "Wilhelm II, German Kaiser, took from three ships eight days before May 1st in 1910, who came down to earth from the area of ​​the clouds at the same time, start the parade at this point. Dorotheenstrasse 34 (Hölderlin House)

The house at Hölderlinstraße 34 (the house number used to be 36) was built in the early 18th century. It has gained cultural and historical importance mainly from the fact that Friedrich Hölderlin lived in this house from June 26, 1804 as a subtenant of the Swiss watchmaker Frédéric Calame. Because of his noticeable, at times noisy behavior, he had to move to another house in Haingasse in the summer of 1805. The house was used as a private residence and was in such poor condition after the Second World War that in 1954 the CDU city councilor Maria Bringezu applied for the city to buy the house in order to save it. In 1959 the house was listed as a historical monument. But it was not until 1981 that the city bought the house for 60,000 marks. However, an expert opinion then revealed that the building fabric was so dilapidated that renovation was no longer possible. With the approval of the Monument Protection Office, the house was demolished in November 1983. The new building takes up the shape of the historic house, especially the front door in the middle of the house. Only this entrance door could be taken over from the original house. Today there are 6 apartments in the house, one of which is used by Hölderlin researchers.
