At the height of the Saalburg Pass there was a horse changing station on the border between the Landgraviate of Hessen-Homburg and the Principality of Nassau-Usingen in the 17th and 18th centuries . In 1871 the horse changing station was converted into a restaurant with Victorian style elements. Louis Jacobi is also involved in the renovation .
