Rathmore ( Irish : An Ráth Mhór, German  "large ring fort" ) is a town in County Kerry in the southwest of the Republic of Ireland , right on the border with County Cork . The place is in the heart of the Sliabh Luachra area , known for its traditional Irish music and culture. The population of Rathmore was 790 at the 2016 Census.

The Mallow-Tralee Railway runs through the town and connects it with Cork , Dublin and Tralee . Rathmore Railway Station opened on December 1, 1854 and has been closed to freight traffic since November 3, 1975.

The overland bus service Bus Éireann also connects the place with Cork City and Tralee.

Rathmore is divided into two parts: one part of the village houses the commercial center of the village, while the other part houses the authorities, schools and churches.
