Rational Build Forge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rational Build Forge ( BuildForge ) was developed by BuildForge based in Austin, Texas. After IBM took over the Texan software company in 2006, Build Forge was integrated into IBM's software brand Rational . Rational Build Forge is a framework with which software development and delivery processes can be mapped, automated and controlled.

architecture

Rational Build Forge consists on the one hand of the Build Forge Server and on the other hand of one or mostly several agents. The server manages the entire process flow and records the results in a database . The agents are installed on the target systems, receive the commands from the server, execute them and return the results. User access is via the management console ( web- based) or via an integrated development environment .

functionality

The smallest executable unit is a step. The step consists either of a command that is executed on the target system or of a special Build Forge command. The steps can be defined in a library for reuse or stored directly in a project. The sequence of steps is controllable: serial, parallel, depending on conditions, multiple runs, dynamic during runtime, etc. The project is placed in the context of an environment and shows the current state of the project while it is being executed . job).
