Ratnagiri is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra . The city is located on the west coast of India and borders the Arabian Sea .
The city is the administrative seat of the Ratnagiri district of the same name . Ratnagiri has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 27 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 76,229 inhabitants, of whom 37,670 were men and 38,559 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 63%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 91.88%, well above the national average.
