Rauðir pennar

Rauðir pennar (= "red feathers") is an Icelandic literary magazine that was published between 1935 and 1938.

Editor of the magazine

Rauðir pennar was the magazine of the Félag byltingarsinnaðra rithöfunda ( Association of Revolutionary Writers ), in which the later Nobel Prize winner Halldór Laxness and the writers Jóhannes úr Kötlum , Þórbergur Þórðarson and Halldór Stefánsson were organized. The publisher was Kristinn Eyjólfur Andrésson .

After the magazine was discontinued, the editors continued their work in the periodical Tímarit Máls og menningar ( magazine for language and culture ) published from 1940 by the literary society "Mál og Menning" .

    • 1st year, issue 1 from December 7, 1935, 320 pages. Contains 31 articles, including translations of excerpts from Bert Brecht, Maxim Gorki, Anna Seghers ( The Path through February ), Ernst Toller and Friedrich Wolf.
    • 2nd year, issue 2 from January 1, 1936, 240 pages. Contains 27 articles, including a literary tribute to Martin Andersen Nexö's Erich Mühsam, who died in 1934.
    • 3rd year, issue 3 from January 1, 1938, 240 pages. Contains 33 articles, including a translation by Halldór Stefánsson of Stefan Zweig's short novella Episode am Geneva Lake (Icelandic: Stepan Sweig, Leiðarlok ).
    • 3rd year, issue 4 from October 1, 1938, 240 pages. Contains 21 contributions, including an art criticism by Jón Ðorleifsson of Picasso's Guernica, which was created in 1937 .

The number count is represented by the number of the magazine logo, a stylized pen in red.
