Halldór Stefánsson

Halldór Stefánsson (born December 1, 1892 in Kóreksstaðagerði, Norður-Múlasýsla ; † January 5, 1979 ) was an Icelandic writer and co-founder of the association Tímarit Máls og menningar . His work consists of short stories , novels , radio plays and plays .

Life

Halldór was born in 1892 as the son of the small farmer Stefán Stefánsson and his wife Margrét Halldórsdóttir . He grew up in Eskifjörður , where his father got a job at the post office. He himself learned the profession of printer, but also worked as a telephone operator before he was hired at a bank in Eskifjörður and then from 1930 to 1957 in Reykjavík .

In 1921 he published his first short story Hjälp anonymously . In the period that followed, several other short stories appeared. Halldór lived in Berlin from 1929 to 1930, where he published his first book, the short story collection Í Fáum dráttum . During this time his short stories also appeared in German translation in newspapers and magazines. Upon his return to Iceland, Halldór was part of the circle of the magazine Rauðir pennar and was a co-founder of the magazine Tímarit Máls og menningar .
