The rough-haired Istrian hound ( Istarski oštrodlaki gonič ; also rough-haired Istrian hound ) is a breed of dogs from Croatia recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 6, Section 1.2, Standard No. 152 ).
Origin and history
The development and origin of the rough-haired type and the short-haired Istrian hound ( Istarski kratkodlaki gonič ) are as good as identical, but illustrations are rarer because rough-haired was considered less attractive. During the First World War, the breed almost died out. In 1924, the stud book was opened parallel to that of the short-haired breed. The FCI recognized the short-haired Istrian hound in 1948. The first standard dates from 1969.
description
Visually, this hound breed is very similar to the short-haired breed : up to 58 cm tall and 24 kg in weight, only the coat is rather rough-haired, shaggy and longer. Again, the color is white with yellow-orange markings. The tail is carried in the shape of a saber and is set high. The ears are medium to long and covered with short fur. The head hair of the dogs is clearly scruffy.
