Raoul Tagliari

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raoul Eduardo Travassos Tagliari (born July 15, 1940 ) is a former Brazilian soccer player who was one of the first Brazilians in the Bundesliga after being signed to Meidericher SV in 1964.

Career

Tagliari played in his home country for the Clube Esportivo Aimoré from São Leopoldo before he was brought into the Bundesliga by the German runner-up Meidericher SV in the summer of 1964. This made the then 24-year-old alongside Zézé from 1. FC Cologne the first Brazilian player in league history. When he made his debut on November 21, 1964 in a 2-0 win against 1. FC Nürnberg , he was able to score one goal and thus became the first Bundesliga shooter from Brazil.

In the following time he was only called up sporadically under coach Rudi Gutendorf , which was partly due to a number of injuries. Nevertheless, Tagliari, who also studied dentistry , became a crowd favorite at MSV. In the following season he played hardly a role in the team, which is why he was also not called up when Meiderich was defeated 2: 4 in the 1966 DFB Cup final to Bayern Munich . At the end of the 1965/66 season he left the club after nine Bundesliga games with four goals and returned to his home country. There he joined Gremio Porto Alegre . In retirement he lived in the metropolis of Porto Alegre .
