Ravenwood Fair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ravenwood Fair was a browser game and social network game by Lolapps that was (co-) designed by Doom creator John Romero . It was published on October 19, 2010 on the page of the social network Facebook . The game already had more than 4 million users in the first month. The content of the game is to set up and manage your own virtual fair . In the meantime, the game was offered on various networks such as IMVU, Bebo, StudiVZ and similar. On July 18, 2013, the gaming operations of Ravenwood Fair were discontinued.

Course of the game

The aim of the game was to set up a virtual fair. To do this, trees had to be felled, attractions, buildings and decorations erected, monsters fended off and tasks completed. The more attractions the player built, the more visitors the fair drew and accordingly generated more income. In addition, you were compared with active players who were in the Facebook circle of friends. Later there was an expansion to the game called Ravenstone Mine . This takes place in a mine under the forest at Ravenwood Fair and uses a similar art style and characters.

After Ravenwood Fair there were two similar follow-up games by Lolapps called Ravenskye City and Ravenshire Castle . Collectively , these games are known as RavenWorld .

The music for the game was composed by Dren McDonald & Aaron Walz. It was released on the album The Music of RavenWorld , along with the music of Ravenskye City and Ravenshire Castle . A total of nine titles come from Ravenwood Fair and three from the Ravenstone Mine expansion .

reception

According to the developers, the game had ten million regular users on Facebook in February 2011. In April 2011, the game had peaked with 11 million active users on Facebook. After that, the number of users gradually decreased. According to designer John Romero , Ravenwood Fair was played by 25 million users on all social networks . 10 percent of the users on Facebook paid for the app at some point.

Nominations

The game was nominated as Social Networking Game of the Year for the DICE Award in 2011 by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences . In the same year, it received three nominations for the Game Developers Choice Online Awards : Best Online Game Design , Best Social Network Game, and Best Audio for an Online Game .

criticism

Picture plays praises the “loving graphics and sounds” as well as the “mature game story with many unexpected twists and turns and challenges”.

Engadget's Christopher Grant said users shouldn't play the game if they were concerned about certain Facebook apps inadvertently disclosing their personal information to unscrupulous advertisers. According to AOL's Libe Goad, Facebook punished the developer LOLApps as early as November 2010 for giving too much user information to the advertising network and other companies.
