Rawa Ghafoor Saleem also Rawa Xafour ( Kurdish ڕه‌واغفورسه‌لیم; * July 1988 in Sulaimaniyya , Kurdistan Autonomous Region , Iraq ) is a Kurdish singer , guitarist and songwriter .

life and work

He became known for his style of music, a crossover of popular Kurdish music and pop . He made his first television appearance in 2012 with the song Raz, a composition in the style of popular Kurdish music . Over time, he only devoted himself to pop music, with Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash probably playing the greatest role in his musical career. He received the pseudonym Rawa Rockstar from the President of the American University of Iraq Sulaimani , Bruce Walker Ferguson, when he gave a country music concert at the university with his band. Rawa Rockstar is the first Kurdish singer to appear publicly with a repertoire of pop songs, not only combining genres, but also giving his lyrics a special touch by mixing Kurdish and English. His socio-political and religiously critical texts often cause a stir. Numerous television and radio interviews as well as concert appearances and video clips make him a colorful personality on the local music scene.
