Ray Coleman (born February 3, 1933 in Essington , Pennsylvania ) is an American country and rockabilly musician.

Life

Ray Coleman was born in Essington, Pennsylvania in 1933. As a child he was influenced by country and learned to play the guitar . As an adolescent and young man, he was fascinated by Bill Haley , who was just becoming a local player in Philadelphia with his band, the Four Aces of Western Swing .

Coleman was later discovered by Haley and Jack Howard, owners of the record label Arcade Records . Haley took him on tours and other public appearances in the early 1950s. In 1957, when rock 'n' roll had already hit the whole country, Coleman made his first recordings for Howard's Arcade label and released the single jukebox rock and roll / rock, Chicken Rock . This was followed in 1958 by singles for the small Saliano label and for Skyrocket Records, a sub-label of Arcade.

In 1956, Coleman was offered an appearance in the film Rock Around the Clock (German title: Beside Rand und Band ), in which Bill Haley could also be seen, but a disagreement between Coleman and producer Sam Katzman failed to work together.

In 1978 and 1980 Rollercoaster Records recorded a large part of Coleman's recordings on the Rockaphilly! and The Return of Rockaphilly! released.
