Rayda Jacobs

Rayda Jacobs (* 1947 in Cape Town ) is a South African writer and filmmaker.

Life

Rayda Jacobs began writing as a child and posted her first story on Springbok Radio at the age of 12 . In 1968 she was caught with a forged ID and had to leave South Africa as a condition for release from prison. She went to Canada . Her first book The Middle Children , a collection of autobiographical short stories , was published there in 1994 .

After the end of apartheid , she returned to South Africa in 1995. She wrote several novels dealing with South Africa's past and present. She filmed her award-winning novel Confessions of a Gambler in 2007 and also played the lead role herself. The film premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival.

In addition to her work as a writer, she made several documentaries, moderated radio programs and writes for newspapers and magazines. She lives in Cape Town.
