Raymond Bayer

Raymond Bayer (* 1898 ; † 1959 ) was a French philosopher and university professor.

Bayer completed his studies in philosophy at the École Normale Superieure and attended art history courses at the Sorbonne . In 1934 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the aesthetics of grace ( L'esthétique de la grâce ). From 1937 to 1942 he was professor of philosophy at the University of Caen , after which he taught at the Sorbonne until his death. Together with Charles Lalo and Etienne Souriau, he founded the Revue d'esthétique (1948) and also became vice-president of the Société française d'esthétique . On the occasion of the Philosophy Congress held in Paris in 1937, he was instrumental in founding the Institut International de Philosophie together with Ake Petzäll (University of Lund, Sweden) and Léon Robin (University of Paris Sorbonne) .
