Raymond Ghajar

Raymond Ghajar ( Arabic ريمون غجر, DMG Raimūn Ġaǧar ; * around 1960) is a Lebanese electrical engineer and university professor . He has been energy minister in the Diab cabinet since January 2020 .

Raymond Ghajar earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1983 , followed by a master's degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1987 , and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering-Power Systems. From 2007 he worked as a Senior Advisor in the Lebanese Ministry of Energy. I.a. In 2010 he was directly involved in drawing up the strategy paper for the electricity sector in order to ensure the continuity of the country's electricity supply. Although Ghajar had joined the ministry before 2009 when the Free Patriotic Movement first appointed the minister, he is considered to be closely associated with Gebran Bassil and was appointed to his current post within the government quota allocated to the FPM.

He has been a representative of the Greek Orthodox community, appointed by the President and the FPM, Minister for Energy and Water in Hassan Diab's cabinet since January 21, 2020 . As a university professor, Ghajar researched and published on the topics of reliability of the electricity network, analysis of the electricity network, planning of generation and transmission, restructuring of electricity supply companies and spot pricing.
