Rea Award for the Short Story
The Rea Award for the Short Story (German: Rea-Kurzgeschichtenpreis ) is a literary prize that has been awarded annually to an American or Canadian author since 1986 . The 30,000 US dollars prize money will not be awarded for a single work, but for significant contributions to the genre of short story .
Background of the price
The Rea Prize is named after its founder Michael M. Rea, who died in 1996 and held management positions in real estate and broadcasting companies. In his spare time he wrote short stories, collected first editions, and worked as a curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, among others . The award is made by the Dungannon Foundation, founded by Rea and named after his hometown in Northern Ireland . The winner is selected by a jury that changes every year and consists of three literary personalities. It is not possible to apply for the award.
